Cigar City’s Table Saison Farmhouse Ale and El Lector Dark Mild

20 Apr

Our good friends at Tampa’s Cigar City Brewing continue to set trends in today’s Craft marketplace with their newest commercial offering’s; Table Saison & El Lector Dark Mild.

The “Big Beer” high-gravity brews have been all the rage in the Craft world for the past decade or so; but today, many of the established Craft drinkers seem to be having a revolution of the palate! Historically, beer has been intended to be a social indulgence, and the public house/tavern/pub/bar was a place to quaff several beers and discuss the affairs of the day. What is needed for endurance Craft beer indulgence is session-style, low ABV., yet boldly flavorful brews! Yes, we do think Cigar City has really nailed a couple great ones here! (only available in 1/6bbl draft)

El Lector Dark Mild
A classic English-style dark mild ale. This style was almost driven to extinction but has been revitalized by American craft brewers. El Lector is brown in color with light fruit and caramel notes in the aroma. It has medium body and a rustic caramel sweetness along with light herbal notes from the English hop varietals. It is a very social beer due to the low ABV and smooth drinkablitity. - 4.5%

Table Saison Farmhouse Ale
A lower alcohol version of a French saison. Hazy gold color. Table Saison has mild clove and tropical fruit notes in the aroma. Light body. Lemon Peel , Mild bitter curacao, and clove notes. A great summer beer, thirst quenching and full flavored for such a drinkable beer. -  4.5%

Six Brand Launch from Cigar City Brewery!

8 Sep

We at BKT don’t intend to overly update any one brewery; but if there is any singular brewery that J.J. Taylor FL is partnered with that spins off NEW brands at a rapid rate, it is Cigar City Brewery.  There is a great deal of experimenting going on over there for sure!

This is BIG launch week for Cigar City Brewery; I believe we are launching more NEW CCB brands or packages this particular week than we ever have!  So prepare your pallets and make room in your coolers… The 4/6pk package products will be released later this week, but the draft brands are rolling out now.

Most exciting to us is the official launch of Maduro Brown Ale 4/6pks!  This is CCB’s session brown-porter and one of their core brands… it will now be sold year round in 4/6pks! Maduro Brown will be priced well below Jai-Alai IPA 4/6pks.

Cigar City Jose’ Marti’ American Porter 4/6pks (bottles only): An aggressively hopped robust porter, also considered a black IPA, but named for the Cuban national hero who also spent a significant amount of time in Tampa and gained prominence in Latin American literature.  This 6pk format does not have a 6pk mother carrier, so it is 6 loose hanging bottles. The next bottling will likely be in 4pks and have a custom 4pk carrier to contain the bottles.

Cigar City White Oak IPA 4/6pks (bottles only): White Oak is the acclaimed Jai-Alai IPA aged on American White Oak chips.  It is astounding what a different and remarkable character the white oak adds to the base beer.  This 6pk format also does not have a 6pk mother carrier, it is 6 loose hanging bottles. The next bottling will likely be in 4pks and have a custom 4pk carrier to contain the bottles.

Cigar City Puppy’s Breath Porter 1/6bbl (draft only): A rich, malt forward yet roasty robust porter weighing in about 8% abv.

Cigar City Tocobaga Ale 1/6bbl (draft only): A deep colored amber ale, with hop flavor and aromas dominating and a subtle caramel malt sweetness to balance in the finish, 7.4% abv.  This recipe was developed by Tim Ogden, one of the CCB brewers.

Cigar City Good Gourd
1/6bbl  (draft only) :  A 9%+ abv Imperial pumpkin ale to get you in the Autumn spirit!

Lastly, the official release of DATZ Deli’s Pumpernickel Rye Porter: A collaboration of DATZ’s artisanal baked pumpernickel bread with Cigar City’s brewing talent.  It will be released to DATZ Deli only at 8pm Thursday September 9th.

Coming Soon from Cigar City Brewery

23 Aug

The Brew Kettle Times is tossing out a little teaser as to what NEW bottled packages are soon to come from Tampa’s home town brewer, Cigar City Brewery.  (Please note, the BKT will update you upon brand release.)

Notice the updating to the current Jai-Alai IPA label?

Currently, expect to find DRAFT ONLY of Cigar City Cubano Espresso, Humidor Jai-Alai IPA, Guava Grove Saison, Oatmeal Raisin Cookie and Batch 169 Double Cream Ale out in the local marketplace.

Cheers,  BKT

Fall Seasonal Beers & Marzen Madness!

12 Aug

It’s the second week of August in muggy Florida, and yes, we are well into releasing our Fall Seasonal Beers!  2010 offers our best lineup of beers that we have ever had access to.  Look for the NEW arrivals into Florida from the brewers at: Breckenridge, Rogue, Sierra Nevada, The Bruery, Southampton, Terrapin & Cigar City Brewery.  Also keep an eye open for Left Hand Oktoberfest out in the marketplace; the 4/6pks are already sold out at J.J. Taylor for the year.   – PROST!

Cigar City Guava Grove Saison…NOW SHIPPING!

10 Aug

Our good friends at Cigar City Brewery have decided to take their remarkable Guava Grove Saison to a year round Limited Release. The first batch of 2010 mainly went to draft package, but this second batch went to 750ml bottles and  is now in the J.J. Taylor warehouse and ready to ship out.

Cigar City Guava Grove Ale is a Belgian-style farmhouse Saison that sees a secondary fermentation with an extended aging on Florida guava puree. The complex flavors imparted by both the Belgian yeast strain and the guava are unlike anything you are likely to have encountered. This is an elegant beer, dry, fruity and tart, yet pairs wonderfully well with white fish, mussels, fresh tropical fruits and earthy cheeses. – 8% abv.

CCB Marshal Zhukov’s Russian Imperial Stout

14 Jul

J.J. Taylor will be releasing Cigar City Brewery’s highly praised Marshal Zhukov’s Russian Imperial Stout in 1/6bbl draft this week. The 750ml bottles are still conditioning and will not be available from J.J. Taylor until early August. Nevertheless, the draft is now ready to roll! I have sampled this year’s first batch of Zhukov’s and is marvelously roasty and dry with a big hop presence on the finish.  This is an Imperial Stout that is made to stain your glass crimson!

“This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Gregory Zhukov. Arguably one of World War II’s finest generals and a man bold enough to appreciate the rich, complex flavors of a beer brewed to fortify a body through the Russian winter. Like military geniuses, Russian Imperial Stouts reach their peak with a little age on them, so we release Marshal Zhukov’s Russian Imperial Stout in sweltering July so that it will be at peak flavor come January or February.

* Opaque black in color, the aroma has notes of espresso, chocolate, dark sweet toffee with hints of black strap molasses. The flavor starts with an unsweetened chocolate character and supporting notes of herbal dryness from English hop varietals. It then moves into dark toffee sweetness and closes with a slap of roasty espresso. Zhukov’s Imperial Stout pairs well with Mushroom Solyanka, dark chocolate, cherries and ground wars in Russia. – 10.5% abv. Enjoy, comrade.”
